Let me introduce my dearest Carmen to you all.
She is THE SADDEST, WEIRDEST, and CUTEST dog ever!!
I’ve always had a dog in my household growing up. But honestly guys, I have never met a dog this expressive. Her eyes just remind me of ASPCA commercial! I just can’t deal with her sometimes lol. Real talk though, ever since I adopted her, she has been my rock. She just brings joy and peace to my soul. I sound a little crazy when I talk about her sometimes, I know. But I am proud to say I’m obsessed with this one.

<h1>So, here is her life story…</h1>
She grew up in Baltimore city when she was a lil pup. She was cute as a peanut, just living her cute little life minding her own business (I’m just making stuff up lol).
One day, her owner got arrested. She didn’t understand what was happening. She left her house and walked around the city. She was a little scared at first, but she loved the fresh air and FREE FOOD!
Little did she know, something bad was about to happen to her. The craziest day of her life! She was walking around the city as usual. And then…BAM! This scary dog ran towards her and bit her! She was so shocked that she couldn’t even fight back. Fortunately, a nice person saw the event and <a href="https://barcs.org/">barcs</a> (shelter) took her in (This is what the shelter lady told me). She was very traumatized, so shelter people thought she needed a foster parent before going into adoption. This is when I come in.

My roommate at the time brought me this idea of fostering a dog. We all had such stressful lives then (and I guess we weren’t very good at managing our stress), so we needed something to lift our spirits up. A week later or so, we visited barcs to get some information. We’re both dog people, so obviously, we decided right then and there, “we have to do this!”
We submitted some paperwork and a few days later, we went back to barcs to take a class. That’s when we met her for the first time. Unlike adoption, we didn’t have any options to choose from. The barcs lady looked at our information and chose her for us. When we first saw her, her kennel was right next to this huuuuge dog’s kennel (the dog was probably bigger than me), and she was quietly sitting in a little corner. I never had an experience with a pit bull, so I was a little skeptical (now I know, and I feel super guilty for saying this). Also, the lady told us that day she needed to be quarantined for FOUR MONTHS because of her injury, which I honestly couldn’t tell.
We brought her back home (they gave us a crate, too, of course) and slowly introduced her to this new environment. She was very timid, but I could tell that she was happy. She laid down on the floor like a little frog and adapted to this new space so fast. She was fully trained and honestly we did not have to teach her anything. Everyone loved her and she loved everyone, too.

<h1>4 months later…</h1>

Obviously, our bond became very strong. She really became a part of the fam. We asked everyone we knew if they could adopt her. We didn’t want to fully lose her, you know? Like hello? four months is a loooong time! But….time was up. We had to take her back to barcs so that they could start the adoption process for her. So, we took her back in. We even had a good-bye party for her. I said good-bye to her little scared self. Her tail was completely tucked in, and she kept looking back. Oh my gosh, I don’t think I could ever forget that moment.
I cried, cried, and cried. I literally could not deal with the fact that I had to let her go. I asked my bf, my family, everyone what I should do. Should I adopt her? Can I afford a dog? Can I really be a good dog mom? Is it worth it?
The next day, I was there. At barcs. Signing an adoption form. I had to do it. Yep, I failed fostering. I just loved her too much!

So, this is how Carmen became my family. This is her story.

If you haven’t, I recommend you to watch this documentary because the facts are alarming. The documentary’s goal is to help us understand the benefits of eating a plant-based diet.
Would this transition be difficult? YES YES AND YES
But anything that requires adjustment on our part is going to be challenging.
You may ask: What is a plant-based diet?

I understand that we may have some meat lovers in our community. To be honest, I am not a meat lover myself, but I do enjoy meat on certain occasions. However, if we want to protect our planet, we have to shift our food diet to save our planet.
Therefore, this mag is dedicated to plant-based diet recipes and brands. Hopefully, you can use it in your everyday life but at your own pace.

I watched a YouTube video of Kim Kardashian’s tacos recipe. YES, you read that right, plant-based tacos. The brand that is featured in her video is called Beyond Meat, and their mission is as follow:
“We believe there is a better way to feed our future and that the positive choices we all make, no matter how small, can have a great impact on our personal health and the health of our planet. By shifting from animal to plant-based meat, we can positively impact four growing global issues: human health, climate change, constraints on natural resources, and animal welfare.” (Meat, n.d.)

The Lodge at Whale Pass
Located at the north end of Prince of Wales Island, water surrounds the Lodge at Whale Pass. That water includes the Pacific Ocean and the Inland Passage. Some small streams, that nonetheless support great fisheries, are found there, too.
In addition to fishing, the Lodge at Whale Pass offers hiking, biking, caving, wildlife watching for birds, bears, and marine mammals, trips to the LeConte Glacier, and more. You find incredible scenery. You can't get bored there!
It was my privilege to work there three seasons as a guide. I captured these images during that time.

Goodnews River Lodge sits at the edge of the Goodnews River, five miles from the village of Goodnews Bay, ten miles from the icy waters of the Bering Sea. Anchorage is almost 400 miles distant.

The weather can be terrible or awe-inspiring, or sometimes both at once.
The bugs might try to suck you dry, but often there are none at all.

<h1>Dolf the werewolf</h1>
My boyfriend and I found our little kitten in May. Back than she was around 6 weeks old, super skinny, sick and missing one eye. We don’t know what happened to her but we knew we had to take her home. We transported her back to our home in Passavant-la-Rochère. During the ride she bit me in the finger so hard it started to bleed haha! That’s why she’s named the little werewolf. Now a couple months later she’s healthy, happy and can do a hack of a lot with her 1 eye.

Buy toys. Lots of them. Puppies love to chew. Teething is real.

Don’t stress. Puppies need to snooze.

Eating. 3 times a day. 
6am, 12pm &amp; 4pm. 
A schedule makes it easier to track peeing and pooping :)

<h1>Quarantine Kitty</h1>

Gigi is a Maine-coon named after Kobe Bryant’s daughter, Giana Bryant. In the mist of all the craziness of COVID-19, Gigi was the highlight and light in a dark tunnel. 
We got her from the well-esteemed breeder who goes by Fivestarz Maine Coon Cattery. Lucky to have met the amazing breeder who raised our baby!

<li>This is Louie! A 5 pound teacup Maltese who loves his cookies! But sometimes he can be picky! Today while making a plate of apples and peanut butter for myself, I looked down and saw Louie salivating. I always let him lick the spoon of peanut butter before putting it in the dishwasher; he loves peanut butter so much he was pushing the spoon all around the kitchen trying to get all of the excess peanut butter off of it.</li>
I make cookies all the time for my family and friends and after watching Louie lick the spoon clean, I decided to make cookies for him this time! As Louie is now 13 and has had many of his teeth pulled, I wanted to make sure they would be soft but he would also like them, so I made chewy peanut butter and banana cookies (two of his favorite things).

<h1>The prep</h1>
Ingredients

For these cookies you will need: 
<ul>
 <li>2 bananas</li>
 <li>1 cup of peanut butter</li>
 <li>1 teaspooon of baking powder</li>
 <li>1 1/2 cups of flour</li>
 <li>1/2 cup of water</li>
</ul>
Note: Make sure the peanut butter does NOT contain the ingredient xylitol (an artificial sweetener used in some peanut butter that is deadly to dogs).

<h1>The Making</h1>
Step 1: Mash Bananas

In a bowl (I used a large one), mash both bananas together. I did not fully get the lumps out as I wanted to add some texture to the cookies.

<h2>Step 2: Add peanut butter</h2>
Add 1 cup of peanut butter to the mashed bananas and mix until well combined.

Step 3: Add Dry Ingredients
Add the teaspoon of baking powder and 1 1/2 cups of flour to the peanut butter banana mixture. Mix until almost combined.

Step 4: Add Water
Once almost combined, add 1/2 a cup of water. This should fully combined the dry ingredients with the bananas and peanut butter.

<h2>Step 5: Roll and cut</h2>
Roll the cookie dough out on the counter, cut and place onto baking sheet. I wanted to cut them into little bones and paws. The bones turned out okay but the paws were not looking to got so I rolled them again and made it look like normal peanut butter cookies.

Definitely want to order these dog bone cookie cutters for the next time I make these! <h1>Bake, Cool, and Enjoy!</h1>

Heat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 20 minutes. Let them cool completely and then let your puppy enjoy!

Coming home from walking your dog, paws need to be cleaned; Here is a great recipe below that won’t harm or dry out paws 
DIY Paw Wipes

Here’s what you need:

1 ⅔ cups of filtered water
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp Castile soap (unscented and dye-free)
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Square plastic container with a lid (a sandwich-size tupperware is perfect)
10 sturdy paper towels
1 Pair of scissors

Here’s how you make it:

#1: Combine your water, vinegar, and soap in the square tupperware, close the lid, and give it a good shake.

#2: Add your olive oil to the mix. Then, close the lid and give it another good shake to blend all the ingredients together.

#3: Tear your paper towels from the roll and cut them into even squares. Submerge the paper towels in the cleaning solution.

#4: When your paper towels are soaked, lift one from the stack, and wring it out, so it’s damp but not dripping.

#5: Gently give each of your dog’s paws a quick wipe down. Wipe the bottom of each paw and gently swipe between their toes as well.

<h1>Lucie &amp; Javan</h1>
Je monte à cheval depuis que j’ai 4 ans, 20 ans ça commence à faire un bon bout de temps. C’est à ce moment là que j’ai rencontré Lucie, petite fille timide et introvertie. 

 <li>On a grandi ensemble, une partie au conservatoire national de musique, elle à l’alto, moi au violon. Mais quand on était ni au conservatoire, ni à l’école, on était aux écuries. L’équitation fut pour nous la meilleure des écoles ; humilité, patience, rigueur, écoute, self-control. </li>

À l’âge de 6 ans, Lucie a eu son cheval, Javan. Je l’ai vue s’ouvrir, grandir, se révéler en tant que femme, prendre confiance en elle. C’est avec ces deux inséparables que j’ai commencé à prendre des photos, essayé de capturer ce lien invisible entre l’Humain et l’Animal.
