Herbs are easy plants to grow and they taste delicious. Starting a herb garden is a great way for beginner gardeners to get into growing their own produce.
Here’s my pick of the best herbs for beginners.

SAGE
Sage is a great herb for cooking with and easy to grow. The only thing it doesn’t like is wet ground, so plant it in a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil.
There are loads of sage varieties to choose from, including some with coloured leaves. Harvest the leaves regularly to encourage more to grow.
Sage is an evergreen, so the leaves can be picked at any time to add to your dishes, but for winter protection the plant can be covered with horticultural fleece.

PARSLEY
This biennial herb has so many uses in the kitchen! Give seeds a head-start by sowing them indoors on a sunny windowsill. Alternatively, sow directly in the ground when the soil warms up.
Parsley can be slow to germinate, so speed things up by soaking the seeds in water overnight before planting. Choose a spot with rich, slightly damp soil in full sun or partial shade.
To harvest, the single leaves or bunches low down on the stem can be cut and used fresh.

OREGANO
Oregano plants thrive in warm, sunny spots and like light soils. They have lovely pink flowers and make great ground cover at the front of borders.
Sow the seeds in spring when the soil has warmed up or start them off in pots indoors. When the plants reach 10cm tall, pinch out the vertical growing tips to encourage more leafy side shoots.

MINT
You can grow mint from seed, but it is often different from the parent plant, so I’d advise buying young plants from the garden centre instead.
Bear in mind that mint spreads easily, so plant it in pots to contain the roots and stop it taking over. Keep it in full sun or partial shade and pinch out any flower buds to encourage more leaf growth.

CORIANDER
Coriander is a versatile herb for the kitchen and grows well in the ground or containers. Seeds can take weeks to germinate and the plants are fairly short-lived, so sow a few seeds every couple of weeks for a continuous supply.
It can often ‘bolt’ when stressed, which means it produces flowers and seeds instead of tasty leaves. Keep it well watered and harvest regularly for best results.

BASIL
Basil is one the most popular herbs because it’s so tasty and can be added to a multitude of dishes and drinks. Sow seeds into potting compost on a sunny windowsill from March onwards.
Remove the growing tip when the plants are 15cm high for bushier growth. Plant out in the garden when the weather gets warmer.

CHIVES
Chives are a relative of the onion family and have slender, pointed leaves. They also produce lovely fuzzy globe flowers in a pink or purple colour.
Sow seed directly in the ground during March and April. Chives grow best in a sunny spot with rich moist soil, so keep the plants well-watered.

DILL
The foliage is topped with sprays of yellow flowers in summer, and the flavoured leaves are a popular addition to rice, soup, and salads.
They don’t like root-disturbance, so it’s ideal to sow them in the position where they will stay – either in the ground or in a container.
In spring and summer, the leaves can be cut off and used in dishes. When the seeds turn brown and ripen later in the summer, they can be collected in paper bags and stored – they can be used ground or whole and are often used as an ingredient in curry powder.

FENNEL
A long-lived plant that in early summer is covered in sprays of vibrant yellow flowers. The scent and the taste are similar to aniseed and it can be used in salads and cooking, popularly with fish dishes.
As well as being enjoyed by us in the kitchen, it’s a popular plant for pollinators.
In spring and autumn, leaves can be harvested as required.

ROSEMARY
Beautifully fragrant and perfect in a Mediterranean style garden, rosemary’s evergreen leaves can be picked all year round to use to flavour soup and meat as well as being used in drinks such as tea.
To keep the plant looking full and compact, when the flowers begin to fade, cut back the stems or the plants will become leggy.

Overwatering is one of the most common houseplant problems but it can be difficult to tell the difference between an overwatered and underwatered plant. Knowing whether you are overwatering vs underwatering is essential if you want to keep your houseplants thriving. This article is going to explain how to easily tell the difference between the two and show you how to fix both.
Underwatering plants causes dry leaves, brown tips, leaf drop, wilting, and leaf curling. The soil will feel dry, but the plant will improve after watering. Overwatering causes yellowing leaves, brown tips, wilting despite wet soil, and also symptoms of underwatering if root rot has started.
This article will help you work out if your plant has been overwatered or underwatered, as well as explaining how to prevent both. I’ll explain why both are bad for houseplants, how to fix a plant that is struggling and share my favorite houseplants that can tolerate being over or underwatered.

What Is Wrong With My Plant? – Overwatering Vs Underwatering
If your plant isn’t happy, but you’re not sure whether it has been overwatered or underwatered, the most important thing to do first is feel the soil. An underwatered plant will always have dry soil. Underwatering is caused by complete water deficiency.
If your plant only has symptoms of underwatering, as outlined above, and the soil feels dry, you should water your plant and watch how it responds over the next 12-24 hours. An underwatered plant will respond quickly by recovering from wilting and looking much healthier.
If the plant has symptoms of both overwatering and underwatering, it is more likely to be overwatered. The damage from overwatering is caused by prolonged wet conditions, but the damage will still be present long after the soil dries out.
Rather than attempting to water your plant to see how it responds, you should carefully examine the conditions your plant has been growing in to see if you can work out for sure what the problem is.
The next section will walk you through exactly what to do, and I’m confident you will be able to correctly diagnose your plant and take the correct actions to try to fix it.

How Do You Tell If You Are Overwatering A Plant?
Unhealthy roots are unable to provide nutrients to the leaves, causing them to start to turn yellow. The initial abundance of water can cause blistering and edema of the leaves, but this soon gives way to water deficiency as the roots start to struggle and fail to deliver water and nutrients to the plant. Leaf tips, particularly of young leaves are most susceptible to drought and turn brown first.
Other leaves become dehydrated, papery and thin. As the leaves are responsible for a considerable amount of water loss under normal conditions, many plants start to curl their leaves, or shed them in an attempt to conserve water.

How To Prevent Overwatering
There are a number of simple but important ways to avoid overwatering your plants;
•	Ensure good lighting – Plants grow much quicker and use available water in the soil faster when in good lighting. Even “low light” plants do better in bright conditions.
•	Use well-draining soil – Add inorganic material to your potting soil, such as perlite, leca, gravel, or pumice to aid drainage and aeration. Water should soak into the soil immediately when watering.
•	Avoid cool temperatures – Evaporation and plant growth are increased in warmer temperatures, increasing water use.
•	Use pots that are just big enough – Large pots with more soil will take longer to dry out after watering. Putting your plants in a snug pot makes sure they will use all the available water in the soil reasonably quickly.
•	Choose pots with plenty of drainage holes – Make sure the drainage holes are right at the bottom of the pot. Make more drainage holes if needed.

How To Fix Overwatering
The most important thing is to identify the early signs and make some changes to the conditions your plant is growing in, as outlined above.
If your plant is struggling with symptoms of overwatering, or you think your plant has root rot, you’ll need to take more significant steps to fix your plant. Just follow these steps to get your plant back on track;
•	Gently slide your plant from the pot.
•	Inspect the roots carefully. Rotten roots will be black/brown, fragile, mushy, and may smell bad. Healthy roots should be brown or light in color, and firm to the touch.
•	Prune off all rotten roots with sterile pruning shears. Take care to sterilize the shears afterwards to prevent transferring nasty bugs to any of your other plants.
•	If you have detected root rot, remove all of the soil from the plant. RTemove most gently with your fingers and then rinse off the remainder.
•	Consider spraying the roots with dilute hydrogen peroxide spray. This is harmless to the plant, but helps kill any pathogens.
•	Repot your plant in a clean pot and fresh, well-draining soil.
•	Read up on the care conditions your plant likes best and try to adhere to these. Moderate lighting is better than too much or too little until your plant recovers.

How Do You Tell If You Are Underwatering A Plant?
Whilst it’s easy to mistakenly think an overwatered plant is suffering from underwatering, it is much easy to identify an underwatered plant. Look for dry, papery leaves, brown leaf tips, leaf curling, wilting, and slow growth.
Although there is some overlap between the symptoms of overwatereing vs underwatering, there is an easy way to be sure what the problem is. An underwatered plant should only have symptoms suggesting water deficiency. An overwatered plant will often have symptoms of both, and this is what can make it a little confusing.

Underwatering is more likely to happen if you have less time to look after your houseplants, or if you are away from home for prolonged periods and unable to water your houseplants.
How To Prevent Underwatering
Once again, there are a few really easy measures you can take to reduce the risk of underwatering your plants.
•	Make sure your plant is not rootbound – Most plants fill their pots with roots after a few years, meaning available water is used very quickly. •	Avoid excess heat or warm drafts – Hot conditions or warm drafts can greatly increase evaporation from the soil and transpiration from your plant. This may result in the soil drying after only a day or two. Try to check the soil every few days to monitor when your plant may need to be watered again.
•	Incorrect watering – Make sure to thoroughly soak the soil when you water your plants and let the excess drain. Sometimes water can run right through dry soil without being absorbed. The top of the soil may feel wet, but have the roots had a good drink?
•	Arid conditions – Low humidity greatly increases evaporation and water loss. <a href="https://smartgardenguide.com/ways-to-increase-humidity-for-indoor-plants/">Consider increasing humidity using one of these methods</a> to reduce water loss.
•	The wrong choice of soil – Soil with little organic material may drain too well and dry out quickly. Different types of plants will have different preferences for how well-draining or moisture-retentive they like their soil to be.
•	Forgetting to water your plants – Sometimes it’s hard to remember to water your houseplants. I think we all find a wilted plant from time to time that we have forgotten about. Try to develop a routine of giving your plants a quick check every few days and water those that need it.
•	Self-watering pots, watering globes, or ask someone else to water your plants – There are <a href="https://smartgardenguide.com/water-indoor-plants-on-vacation/">many options to help you water your plants</a> if you are on vacation or away from home for a while. Make use of all options to keep your plants thriving.
•	Seasonal changes – Plant water use changed dramatically from winter to summer. A plant that needs to be watered every two weeks in winter may need watering every two days in summer. This is most likely to catch you out as winter transitions to spring, and your plants start to grow strongly.

<h2>3. A tiny fiddle-leaf fig might suit your lifestyle better than a tree.</h2>
The only thing worse than an unhappy fiddle-leaf fig tree that’s turning yellow or losing its leaves is a fiddle-leaf fig tree that’s too happy—and outgrows your home. Although it will never reach its mature outdoor height of 50 feet (thank God), a potted fiddle-leaf fig tree can grow as tall as 10 feet indoors.

In this post, I’m going to show you exactly what you need to do to help your succulents be their very best, in the easiest way possible.

Pick the right plants
One thing I’ve learned over and over (from the tragic deaths of many succulents) is that some succulents grow better in my home, while others thrive outside on my porch. Most succulents won’t survive the winter outside where I live. 
But not all succulents will do very well inside my home either. I don’t have very much natural light, so a lot of my plants struggle indoors.
If you’re growing succulents outdoors you’ll want to read up on how much sunlight they need. While the labels on many succulents say “full sun,” they may not tolerate 100 degree weather with direct sun all day (though some will).
And even if they can acclimate to full sun, they’ll typically need some time to get used to it if they’ve been purchased from a nursery where they were kept in a greenhouse.
You’ll also want to be aware of your succulents’ frost tolerance. For those of us with cold winters, <a href="https://mountaincrestgardens.com/sempervivum-hens-and-chicks/?aff=2">Sempervivums</a> and <a href="https://mountaincrestgardens.com/sedum-stonecrop/?aff=2">stonecrop Sedums</a> are our go-to outdoor succulents. <h2>No light no problem. </h2>
If you’re growing succulents indoors and (like me) don’t have a lot of natural light in your home, then you’ll want to look for plants that tolerate low light. Most <a href="https://leafandclay.co/products/haworthia-fasciata?variant=28826591299?rfsn=376597.71f09">Haworthias</a> and <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=anywhere_gasteria&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fshop%2FCTSairplants%2Fsearch%3Fsearch_query%3Dgasteria%26order%3Ddate_desc%26view_type%3Dgallery%26ref%3Dshop_search">Gasterias</a> are great in low light.

<a href="http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=blog&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fsearch%2Fhandmade%2Fcraft-supplies-and-tools%2Fhome-and-hobby%2Ffloral-and-garden-crafts%2Fgardening-and-plants%3Fq%3Dsansevieria%26order%3Dmost_relevant%26ref%3Dauto2%26explicit_scope%3D1">Sansevierias</a>are also becoming a new favorite of mine. They need hardly any light or water.
Sadly, you’ll want to avoid <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=anywhere_echeveria&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fpeople%2Fcameracassidy%2Ffavorites%3Fq%3Decheveria">Echeverias</a> if you don’t have much light. They tend to get stretched out as they try to find more light.
In general, more colorful succulents, like <a href="https://mountaincrestgardens.com/sedum-nussbaumerianum-nussbaumers-sedum-coppertone-stonecrop/?aff=2">Sedumnussbaumerianum</a>, need plenty of light to maintain their color. Succulents that are naturally green tend to be happier indoors.
If you tend to over water, try to find succulents that are forgiving of over-watering, or that need more water. Since <a href="https://mountaincrestgardens.com/portulacaria-afra-green-elephant-bush-miniature-jade/">Portulacaria afra</a> has thin leaves I’ve found it needs to be watered more often. <a href="https://mountaincrestgardens.com/crassula-arborescens-subsp-undulatifolia-ripple-jade/?aff=2">Crassula arborescens undulatifolia</a> and <a href="https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=anywhere_zwartkop&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Flisting%2F150372091%2Fsucculent-plant-black-rose-aeonium%3Fga_order%3Dmost_relevant%26ga_search_type%3Dall%26ga_view_type%3Dgallery%26ga_search_query%3Daeonium%2520zwartkop%26ref%3Dsr_gallery_7">Aeonium zwartkop</a> are two others I’ve found to need more water.
On the other hand, really plump succulents like <a href="https://mountaincrestgardens.com/graptoveria-fred-ives/?aff=2">Graptoveria ‘Fred Ives’</a>, <a href="http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=blog&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dpachyveria%2520glauca%2520in%2520garden%2520and%2520plants">Pachyveria glauca</a>, and <a href="http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=anywhere_succulentoasis&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Flisting%2F271343216%2Fmature-aloe-hybrid-brevifolia-x-humilis%3Fga_order%3Dmost_relevant%26ga_search_type%3Dall%26ga_view_type%3Dgallery%26ga_search_query%3Daloe%2520brevifolia%26ref%3Dsr_gallery-1-8">Aloe brevifolia</a> can go much longer before needing water again. You’ll also find that cacti, such as <a href="http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=blog&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fsearch%3Fq%3DMammillaria%2520rhodantha%2520in%2520garden%2520and%2520plants">Mammillaria rhodantha</a> and <a href="http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinaffid=233213&awinmid=6220&clickref=blog&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fsearch%3Fq%3DMammillaria%2520gracilis%2520fragilis%2520in%2520garden%2520and%2520plants">Mammillaria gracilis fragilis</a>, are very tolerant of long periods of drought.

“It’s hard not to notice such beauty in the world.”
Growing up I always seemed to have this little issues with flower. Every time my family would bring home flowers from the market it made immediately sad. Why take something so beautiful and just sit there and watch it die as the days go by? 
But it’s wasn’t till I grew up and had my own home, with my own rules that plants started becoming something i adored. As time went by i asked people to stop buying me flowers if they ever felt the urge too. It wasn’t long after that my own husband would come home with a basil plant instead of a bouquet of flowers ! I had officially become the plant lady in my group of friends and family! Heheh

HOW TO IDENTIFY COMMON HOUSEPLANT PESTS
If you suspect that you have indoor plant bugs, below is a quick list to help you with plant pest identification.

•	Spider webs or tiny spiders on houseplants – If you see spider webs on the leaves or stems of your plant, that is a sure sign of spider mites. If you look closely you may even see microscopic bugs crawling around on the webbing. Yuck!
•	Tiny white flying insects on indoor plants leaves – If there are small white bugs that look like tiny flies that flutter around the plant every time it’s disturbed (cough, cough), that means your houseplant has whiteflies.
•	Small, slender black, brown, or green bugs with pointy tails – Are there tiny, long and skinny bugs scatter about on the leaves of your houseplants? Ack, those are thrips.
•	Clusters of fat, juicy brown, red, or green bugs on plants, flower buds or new growth. You may also notice tiny white flakes or specks on and around the plant. Gross, those are aphids.
•	Hard crusty bumps or brown spots on houseplants leaves or stems – Spots or bumps on the stems and leaf joints that can easily be flaked off with a fingernail is houseplant scale. You may also notice a sticky substance on indoor plants leaves, or around the area where the plant is sitting. Ewe! 
•	Tiny bugs in houseplant soil – Do you see tiny black or white bugs in plant soil, or gnats that look like fruit flies flying around your houseplants? Yep, those are fungus gnats. 
•	White fluffy stuff on houseplant stems and leaf joints – If there’s white stuff on plants that looks like cotton or mildew, then it has mealybugs. You may also notice sticky leaves on houseplants, or the area around the plant may be covered in a sticky residue. Ick!

HOW TO GET RID OF BUGS ON INDOOR PLANTS LEAVES
Most common houseplant bugs feed on plants, and will be found on the leaves, flower buds and/or the stems. Here are some tips for getting rid of bugs on indoor plants naturally…
•	The first thing to do is immediately isolate the plant to prevent the infestation from spreading to your other houseplants. Also be sure to monitor the surrounding plants closely for signs of indoor plant pests for several weeks.
•	Some bugs can leave the plant and hide for a long time. So be sure to thoroughly clean the area where the plant was sitting using soapy water. You can also sterilize the area with rubbing alcohol if you want.
•	Wash the infested plant with <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Espoma-Organic-Earth-Tone-Insecticidal-Soap/dp/B000UJUVR8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1478619808&sr=8-1&keywords=B000UJUVR8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=87b7492649c263abc995b02ba9988095">insecticidal soap</a>, or use a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DAI76TC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=65f9efe49fe4ef0872b6740b3692be6c">mild liquid soap</a>. Soap kills houseplant bugs on contact. Be careful with the type you use though. Some contain degreasers and detergents that can harm sensitive plants. Always spot-test any type of soap on your plants before washing all of the leaves.
•	Wash the pot and plant tray with soapy water too. Houseplant pests can easily hid under the rim of the pot or tray, or even on the bottoms of them.
•	Use a cotton swab soaked in <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Swan-Isopropyl-Alcohol-99-Pint/dp/B001B5JT8C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1517611737&sr=1-3&keywords=rubbing+alcohol&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=47af60488c917afcb7df267839293bda">rubbing alcohol</a> and dab it on the bugs to kill and remove them from the plant.
•	Treat the plant with <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012BGXVQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=60cb305727f3425bf4a97739a19cb12f">neem oil</a> for long-term indoor plant pest control and prevention. HOW TO GET RID OF TINY FLYING BUGS ON HOUSEPLANTS
Most indoor plant insects fly at some point in their lifecycle, which makes them even more difficult to control.
But killing the flying bugs alone isn’t going to be enough to eliminate a houseplant pest infestation. You need to kill the eggs and nymphs in order to get rid of insects on indoor plants all together.
So be sure to follow the steps above for getting rid of bugs on plant leaves in addition to these steps. Here are a few additional tips for getting rid of flying houseplant pests…
•	Use <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I6K3JY/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000I6K3JY&linkCode=as2&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=4D6L22OWELL52AER">yellow sticky traps</a> or <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Safer-Houseplant-Sticky-Stakes-Insect/dp/B01LFA076K/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1515092643&sr=8-2&keywords=houseplant+sticky+stakes&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=b4481797e011499e7756c56dcf05edc9">houseplant sticky stakes</a> to capture and kill little flying bugs in houseplants. This will help to control them, is non-toxic, and can prevent them from flying to nearby plants too.
•	Suck the flying bugs up with the vacuum cleaner. This works well to get a large population of flying indoor plant pests under control quickly. Just be careful not to suck up the plant leaves in the process.

HOW TO GET RID OF BUGS IN HOUSEPLANTS SOIL
Many types of houseplant pests can be found in potting soil, especially fungus gnats. So any time you find bugs on your houseplants, be sure to check the soil too, and treat it if necessary.
•	Remove the top inch of soil and throw it out. Then replace it with fresh potting soil or a soil cover. Using a soil cover like <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Mosser-1110-Desert-Cover-pounds/dp/B000QGNRR6/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1478811521&sr=8-6&keywords=soil+cover&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=98ccbf1474d628fd7359d88554e4e89d">fine sand</a> or a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTYGQB3/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=f2bee379fb979ff8ff3d44fdef01b0a8&language=en_US">natural top dressing</a> can help prevent a future infestation.
•	Drench the soil with an organic pesticide for houseplants. You could use an <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Espoma-Organic-Earth-Tone-Insecticidal-Soap/dp/B000UJUVR8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1478619808&sr=8-1&keywords=B000UJUVR8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=87b7492649c263abc995b02ba9988095">organic insecticidal soap</a> (I make my own using 1 tsp <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DAI76TC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=65f9efe49fe4ef0872b6740b3692be6c">mild liquid soap</a> to 1 liter of water). Or try a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012BGXVQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=60cb305727f3425bf4a97739a19cb12f">neem oil</a> solution (which can work for systemic houseplant insect control). Be careful not to overwater your plant in the process though.
•	Ensure you’re watering your houseplants properly, the soil should never be soggy. Wet soil is not only bad for houseplants, it’s a breeding ground for pests like fungus gnats. If you struggle with watering, I recommend getting an inexpensive <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002B80FU4/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002B80FU4&linkCode=as2&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=RTPTI7L7AOKALE3M">soil water meter</a> to help you get it right.
•	Store your unused potting soil in a bug-proof container, houseplant pests can’t live without air. I use a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-HG5G-5-Gallon-Black-Bucket/dp/B000VBW17S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1516236418&sr=8-5&keywords=5+gallon+bucket&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=d4b316b39a4895c646465829863bef56">5 gallon bucket</a> with a tight fitting lid (this <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Gamma2-4123-Gamma-Seal-Lid/dp/B0089QJQTS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1508186086&sr=8-4&keywords=Gamma+Seal+Lids&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=07f51ecddb95d427ad8cba3f306f6c41">airtight seal lid</a> is perfect).

HOW TO KEEP BUGS OUT OF INDOOR PLANTS FOR GOOD!
In order to get rid of houseplant pests, you must be vigilant in fighting them. You can’t just treat the plant one time and expect to kill all of the indoor plant insects, nymphs and eggs.
It can take several treatments to eliminate them for good.So once you start treating a plant, inspect it daily and continue treatment until all signs of the infestation are gone.
Most common houseplant pests multiply very quickly, and it takes several treatments to control them, and eventually get rid of them completely.

HOW TO PREVENT BUGS IN HOUSEPLANTS
Once you get rid of bugs on houseplants, you don’t want them to come back, right!? The best long-term defense against any houseplant infestation is preventive pest control.

So here are a few more tips for how to keep indoor plants pest free and healthy for the long run.
•	Always clean and disinfect pots and plant trays before reusing them. You can wash them with soapy water or, if they are sturdy enough, run them through the dishwasher.
•	Check your plants on a regular basis for signs of indoor plant pests. I usually do this each time I water my plants.
•	Never repot a plant just because it has a bug problem. Repotting can further stress an unhealthy houseplant, which could end up killing the plant.
•	Always use fresh, sterile <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Espoma-AP2-Organic-Potting-Cubic/dp/B00553BLPA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00553BLPA&pd_rd_r=0GBHM20QK3Q4C5BMF92W&pd_rd_w=DaROP&pd_rd_wg=85tRH&psc=1&refRID=0GBHM20QK3Q4C5BMF92W&linkCode=ll1&tag=getbusgar07-20&linkId=73bc4c6873c04a55c2debe9dfa466e26">commercial potting soil</a> to repot plants – and never, never use garden soil! If you’re repotting a houseplant that doesn’t have any bugs, it’s fine to reuse the soil in the new container for the same plant. But you should never reuse potting soil from one houseplant to repot another plant.
•	Whenever you bring home a new plant, make sure that you inspect it closely for any signs of bugs. It’s also good to isolate new houseplants for a few weeks to make sure no bugs show up.
•	Sterilize your pruning shears and other tools every time you use them. You can wash them with soap and water, or dip them in rubbing alcohol between uses.
•	Always wash your hands after handling an infested plant.
•	If you put any houseplants outside for the summer, be sure to debug them before bringing them back inside in the fall.
