1. Ground the Room
The best place to start with a new space or when sprucing up your current space is the rug. A rug provides a way to cozy up a space. The rug also provides colors to pull from throughout your space. If you’re more minimal or modern, the rug is a great way to branch out and show a little personality.
2. Set your large pieces
It’s easiest to start by placing your large pieces in a room. This helps to show you the areas you have to fill and play with. You’ll be able to see a little of your new floor plan. Are you all about neutrals? Add a little spice to your neutral pieces by using different textures. Big pro tip: get your new pieces in performance fabrics - so easy to clean. Yes, for those little ones and also for that friend who spills their wine.
3. Accessorize Your ❤️ Out
Hunting accessories for a space is probably my favorite part. The accessories play a huge part in tying your space together - pick wisely! We budget a good amount for pillows. They truly elevate a space. Don’t be afraid to add more of your personality through the accessory process. For this particular space, we brought in the clients colorful personality through pillows, jars, flowers. All with a muted affect and pulling from the rug that set the mood for the space.
4. Proportions & Textures
Make sure that your pieces make sense with the size of the room. Pick items that take up the right amount of space. Don’t be afraid to mix tones, but stay in the same family. Also, add some height in there.
5. Seasonal Decor
There’s nothing like working hard on the space and then having to adjust your room for seasonal decor, but really it’s all about the opposite. You upgraded your space, so it’s time to upgrade that seasonal decor. Making your seasonal decor fit your new space keeps the new space elevated. Check out how we pulled those colors in from the rug and the space to outfit the tree, mantle, and staircase.
