Friends is the greatest TV sitcom
There is no other show that truly spans generations
Is Friends the greatest TV show of all time? No, but is it the greatest sitcom ever? Yes, 100%.
There is a reason that Netflix supposedly paid 100$ million in keeping it on the streaming service for only ONE year.
Friends premiered 25 years ago and is still as popular in 2019 then it was in 1994. I’m going to outline exactly why this show is the best sitcom ever, and why it will never not be.
Humour
It will never not be funny no matter how many times you have watched an episode
There is truly nothing better then getting comfortable and putting on an episode of Friends. The humour is easy and the chemistry between the cast is so special that I could have watched an episode ten times but still giggle at the punch line. “The one with Ross’s Tan” is a go to for me. “Mississipilessly!” will forever make me laugh and I am so grateful for that.
Yes, some people will point out that some of the humour is out of touch- for example, the story line with Chandler’s father. I do agree with this, but I also think they were using humour with what they thought was acceptable. The show premiered in 1994, and society has come along way since then. Friends was and still is supposed to be a light hearted break from the real world, so let’s not forget that!
Family
This show was able to bring together 6 friends that were completely different and unite them all, creating a modern family. Friends was able to allow audiences to see it was okay to chose your own family.
Phoebe Buffay was a homeless teenager with no family she could rely on. Once coming into the friend group she was accepted as one of their own and had been welcomed into a new family. The sense of being different but still having a place in this world is so special to everyone.
Connection
You can find yourself in each of the characters
No matter your age, religion, ethnicity each of the friends at one point in the 10 seasons will connect with your own life on a personal level. Whether it is between Rachel and Ross (were they on a break?!) Or Chandler when he didn’t think his job was the one he was meant to be doing.
The show goes through everything from love, relationships, jobs and family that no matter what you will be able to find some of yourself in one of the characters.
Friends
They’ll always be there for us
This show will continue to span generations bringing joy and laughter to everyone.
So the age old question is whether or not they should re-boot the show with the old cast. I am going to say no, they have given us 10 fantastic seasons and why change something that was so well done.
Friends will always be there for you, whether you need a laugh a cry or just some friends in a hard time.
