The Pilgrims
During the 1600s in England, Members of the radical English Separatist Church where under jurisdiction by the corrupt Church of England. The pilgrims a group of people who were separatists, fleed to Holland. The Pilgrims did not like the economy in Holland and they decided to immigrate to the ‘New World.’ They departed on September 16, 1620. There where 102 people aboard the Mayflower ship. After a 3 month long journey, on November 21, 1620, the Pilgrims arrived in Plymouth.
The Help from the Native People and The Pilgrims repayment
The pilgrims just arrived in a new world and they where having a rough time at the start of their settlement. Many people where dying from the cold weather and sickness. They struggled to find food and supplies. Lucky for the pilgrims, the native people helped them. They helped the pilgrims find food and gather supplies. Once the Pilgrims settlement became a stable and they where thriving, they repaid the native people with a feast. We still celebrate this feast today as Thanksgiving because the Pilgrims show thanks to the native people for helping them survive in the new world by giving them a feast.
